Mango Tiger partners with Tu Do commune in Hoa Binh province to help support sustainable development in the community. The commune is made up of mostly farmers who have to work really hard in what can be quite harsh weather conditions. Tu Do is a small commune located about 5 km’s away from Mu Village, home to the Mu Waterfall which is popular with locals on weekends.
The community is roughly a 3.5 hour drive from the capital of Hanoi and it is located in a very remote area. The commune itself lacks some basic essential equipment, mainly related to healthcare but also to education and other areas of life. Mango Tiger works with the community influence leaders on a variety of different initiatives to help get hold of some of the much needed items.
Mango Tiger supports Tu Do by funding and bringing travelers to help work on a construction project like renovating the village school, basic infrastructure construction and other similar projects. Other initiatives involve working with local teachers by teaching basic English communication to some of children in the village with fun and creative classes.
Mango Tiger is also involved in sending nurse and medical groups to the villages to perform basic non invasive health checks and standard oral hygiene check-ups. Due to the limited staff and medicine at the local clinic, this is sometimes the only access to medical professionals and basic healthcare the community has.
When visiting the community, Mango Tiger travellers stay at a really lovely family run local homestay and while being involved in community work, travellers will also learn about the culture, the food and most importantly the lives of the people living there.
