Mango Tiger partners with my Grandfather’s House Project in Kralanh, just outside of Siem Reap. The mission is to provide education to the local children of Sampov Lourn village, by teaching additional Khmer classes, Maths, English and Science.
Sompov Lourn is a small village, located in Kralanh, one hour away from Siem Reap. Lying on a confluence of beautiful winding rivers which lead to the mighty Tonle Sap, villagers enjoy an abundance of fish and work primarily on the land harvesting rice.
Being in such a remote location, education is extremely limited and with little economic prosperity reaching the local community there is development required. My Grandfather’s School Project aims to provide future job opportunities for local Cambodians, removing the need to move to neighbouring countries. Due to the economic climate many local people have been forced to leave Cambodia to find employment abroad to support their families. Unfortunately, many of these people often find themselves working illegally in unsafe environments.
Providing free education to over 350 students, Mango Tiger and our Grandfathers School Project Sponsors have pledged their support by combing efforts in order to pay the salaries of three teachers, a housekeeper and monthly supplies. By working together, the teachers take care of the school and give lessons which support the Cambodian curriculum, sports, creative classes and English language lessons.
Mango Tiger also works to support my Grandfathers House by sending travellers to the project and having them help support the local teachers with studies, creative classes and games.
The school has come a long way in the last few years but there’s still much to be done. If you would like to get involved on a program or pledge your support, just get in touch.
